Item Description
5x12.5x2.25" deep cardboard mailing box has printed heart w/"Barbie Loves The Improvers" text and typed mailing label w/"Inland Steel Container" return address. Box contains the extremely limited 1967 "Barbie Loves The Improvers" Inland Steel Gift Set promotion. Set came w/#1190 Standard Straight-leg Barbie, who wears pink two-piece swimsuit and pink ribbon in her hair. Issued w/either blonde and red hair, this is blonde version. Doll also comes w/metallic silver cardboard collar attached to matching dress that somewhat resembles a tin can, dress has a die-cut hole at belly button area (which Barbies do not have). Doll was fashioned after a design by Paco Rabanne, a Spanish fashion designer noted for creating controversial fashions using mediums such as paper, hammered metal, fluorescent leather, and plastic, to name just a few. Doll was also issued w/doll stand and hot pink shoes, but shoes are missing. Doll also comes w/rolled flyer for Inland Steel, the back of which features a photo image of a model wearing the same style dress and collar as that which comes w/this doll. Flyer has been rolled and has some scattered wear. Fine. Doll comes in inner box complete w/die-cut cardboard insert. Silver foil cardboard card mentioning Barbie buying her clothes from Inland Steel, going on to mention some of their products. Doll is Exc. w/just some lt. wear to cardboard "dress." Mailing box and label show obvious wear/aging w/scattered moisture/age spots. VG. One of the rarest Barbie dolls to exist due to very limited distribution (only distributed to Inland Steel sales representatives), this doll is rare in any condition let alone unused w/the original shipping box.
