Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box contains 5.5x6x3.5" tall tin litho wind-up toy w/built-in key by Marx. ©1940 Superman Inc. Box features no Superman graphics but is correct for this toy as noted by "Superman Rollover Plane" name stamped on end panels (also produced in variety w/printed name). End panels have moderate insect damage to surface paper, but this does not greatly affect text. Main panels of box have evenly aged. Box has some corner/flap creases but is complete and Fine overall. Scarce. This toy was issued w/different colored planes, this has blue body w/yellow wings/tailfins while the other varieties are gold, red and silver luster. Plane is designed w/pilot figure and separate 3" tall figure of Superman attached to tail by a metal rod. Toy is designed to travel forward a short distance before the Superman figure flips the plane over 360 degrees and then repeats this cycle. Toy works and has just tiny scattered traces of paint wear but remains glossy and displays VF overall. Scarce classic wind-up. Franco Toscanini Collection.
