Item Description
Striking gold on cream fabric ribbon 7.25" tall. The upper .5" of fabric has some horizontal splits, one about 1" wide and the other about .5". The fabric remains very intact in this area and there is no other splitting but just some light dust traces on the fabric below the word "Reunion" which is so faint as to not be visible in many different lighting conditions. The decisive battle of the Texas Revolution took place April 21st (the month and day on this ribbon) in 1836 known as The Battle Of San Jacinto. This date is recognized as the day when Texas won independence from Mexico. Sam Houston commanded 700 Texans defeating the Mexican force of 1200 led by Santa Anna. The group named on this ribbon "Texas Veterans" Association was formed in 1873. Members of the Association met every year from 1873 until 1906. This ribbon was issued for the event in "Waco, April 21st, 1894." The last survivor of the Battle Of San Jacinto was William Zuber who enlisted in 1834 at age 14 and died September 22, 1913. Many members of the Texas Veterans also served the Confederacy during the Civil War and were also members of the Confederate Veterans group. A rare ribbon that saw extremely limited distribution. VF.
