Item Description
The materials and construction of all three pieces are consistent with use in 1896 but the items have no text or maker's name. The smallest and most elaborately crafted bug is 1.5" tall with left side loop holding 4.5" chain of tiny links plus long stickpin. The bug's body is domed in high relief with overlapping scale pattern in two shades of luster. Legs and antennae are bent brass wire and bug has tiny ruby red glass eyes. Underside is flat with a
vertical pin and catch. NM. Medium sized bug is 2.25" tall in a very high relief and extremely well detailed embossed brass shell. Most of right rear leg snapped off, but rest is Mint and has long stickpin on underside.
Largest bug is 2.75" with high relief body and head of solid brass making it quite heavy for the size.  Head has two tiny wire antennae. The insect-like six bent legs are formed by three brass strands invisibly soldered as one piece on the underside to the body which also anchors a long brass stickpin. Most of underside body has rib-like accent details as well. NM. A trio of rare gold bugs.
