Item Description
Hake #3067 produced shortly after Bryan's famous speech which captured the Democratic presidential nomination for him the next day on July 10th. Back of this 4" ribbon is stamped
"Patent Applied For". Front has threads holding a 2.5" wood thorn with two barbs to the sides.
Above in silver type with some color loss but fully readable is "You Shall Not Press Down Upon The Brow Of Labor The Crown Of Thorns-" while below in gold type is "You Shall Not Crucify
Mankind Upon A Cross Of Gold-Wm. Jennings Bryan". The words "You" and "Gold" are not readable but the rest is clear. Very slight trace of red color bleed and small wear to extreme ends of the fabric with an 1/8" hole at left. Overall VG and rare. One of the most iconic items produced for Bryan in 1896.
