Item Description
6x9". 17 single sided sheets and one two sided sheet of hand written notes for a speech given September 27, 1964 to the "Seattle Branch NAACP". Notes are written using abbreviations and cover topics from education, African American history, 1964 Presidential campaign, state's rights, Freedom Summer murders, and voting rights. Notable quotes include: "When Say' Lv To States Can't Help Think Miss... Except Bribe Nvr Wud Find Their Bodies" and "If U Vote For States Rites U Vote For Murders, Too" Slight bleeding of blue ink throughout. "Roy Wilkins" inscribed at upper left not in his hand. Very minor toning of paper consistent with age. VF. Also included is original event program w/image of Wilkins on cover and striking graphic of African American Civil War soldiers converging on Confederate troops on reverse. NM. Brochures are 5.5x8.5" each. First titled "SNCC/Freedom Rally/Dick Gregory/SNCC Freedom Singers" is eight pages with civil rights movement text, 12 photos, order form for Freedom Songbook, Freedom Singers Record and "Pledge Card" for contribution to SNCC. Includes Dick Gregory photo and bio and photo of the five SNCC Freedom Singers plus bio on each. Second item is a four page mimeographed "Seattle Friends Of SNCC".
