Item Description
Hake-Bryan #25. 1-15/16" dia. w/four circle cut-outs on the front panel in addition to an engraved floral pattern. The arc like panels read "Wm. McKinley/Republican" and the circular openings show their photos. When the front cover is turned the panels reveal the text and photos "Wm. Jennings Bryan/Democratic" although the last four letters of the word are very faint with the last two unseen. The back of the piece is open and holds a spring pin bent so that it has both a 1.75" shaft and an opposing .5" shaft for fastening to clothing for display. These came on a card naming maker as "N.J. Aluminum Co., Newark N.J." Photos have a very slight bit of surface wear caused by the turning of the top cover but all images remain clear. Complimentary slogans appear when the cover is in various positions. When McKinley and TR are shown the cover can also be turned to reveal slogans in the cut-outs that read "Expansion/Sound Money" . The word" Sound" is faint. In the Bryan position the extra slogans read "No Imperialism" (first four letters are faint) and "Throttle The Trusts" (last three letters are faint). Fine overall. Julie Powell Collection.
