Item Description
7.5" tall tin litho by Sankei, Japan. 1950s. Box nicely illustrated with baseball theme images on all sides. Due to the corrugated cardboard under the box label, box has all-over noticeable tanning. Die-cut lid has three 1" tears with clear tape repairs. Colors remain strong, VG. Box has accordion-like cardboard insert which stretches across the box bottom. This was originally held in place by a pair of cardboard strips although one of these strips is torn. On the front edge of the box are designations of hits or outs. Object was to fold the box lid backward to form a backdrop so that when balls were hit by the toy they would fall into one of the areas resulting either in a hit or an out. Toy features ball player wearing "All Stars" uniform and holds a plastic bat. He stands on the base at home plate in front of the batting machine unit. Base features illustrations of other ball players along with actual team names including "Yankees, Red Sox, Senators, Phillies, Dodgers," etc. Comes with six original plastic balls. Trace of wear to tabs but toy is working. Player figure has all-over tiny scattered paint nicks and pinpoint spots. Base shows light wear with some factory paint touch-ups but remains glossy. Fine. Great design.
