Item Description
Fob consists of 1.5" celluloid riveted to stiff fiber board 1.75" diameter with loop at top holding lightly worn leather strap. Celluloid has sharp real photo without dot pattern plus panel text below accented by boxing glove designs "Jack Johnson/Champion Of The World." Right edge between two-three o'clock has slightest dent and some tiny scuff lines. The only other damage is a couple of 1/8" light hairline scratches just above his head at the left and seen just in reflected light. Vast majority of the celluloid is totally clean. First example we've seen. Johnson gained the title 12/26/1908 defeating Tommy Burns in Sydney Australia and he held the title until 1915. Fine. The 1.25" button features real photo with text "Tom Gibbons Shelby, Mont. July 4th 1923." Button has light stain and is covered in both short and long cello cracks. Button retains its full gloss. In this match against Jack Dempsey, Dempsey retained the title. This button is unlisted in Muchinsky's boxing button book but the design matches Muchinsky #69 showing Dempsey. Only Fair condition but still displays very nicely. A rare pair. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
