Item Description
High quality slipcover w/gold foil embossed Captain Marvel lightning bolt emblem (gold foil image of Captain Marvel logo on back w/text "The World's Mightiest Mortal" text) contains 10.5x14" hardcover w/240 pages. American Nostalgia Library, 1989. Initially printed in a limited edition print run of 3,000 individually numbered books, book has been stamped w/No. 308. This is the even more limited edition of just 500 that were issued w/5.25x6" illustrated bookplate signed in black felt tip pen by Captain Marvel creator C.C. Beck. Bookplate has been hand-numbered "91" of 500. While edition notes there were to be 500 bookplates signed by Beck, he died in Nov. 1989 before he was able to sign all 500. Book collects 25- issue "The Monster Society Of Evil" Captain Marvel storyline that ran in "Captain Marvel Adventures" comic book issues #23-46, originally published 1943-1945. Book also contains several coded messages throughout, w/the Captain Marvel Club Code provided at front of book. Various Captain Marvel comic book covers are reprinted along w/1940s Captain Marvel premiums including "Flying Marvels, Captain Marvel Picture Puzzle, Shazam Game" and more. Also pictured is Tom Tyler, who portrayed Captain Marvel in the movie serial. Exc./NM. A must-have for any Captain Marvel collector. From the collection of comics and illustration historian Brian M.
