Item Description
Slipcase contains pair of 9.25x12.25" volumes w/average of 275 pages each. Published by Russ Cochran Publishers, 1976-1977. Two of three hardcover books published w/cloth covering and color plates on covers featuring art by noted Tarzan illustrators J. Allen St. John and John Coleman Burroughs. Each has hundreds of illustrations in bw and many in color including St. John, Burroughs, Hal Foster, etc. Each has "Publisher's Sample Copy" inkstamp on edition paged number. Brown leatherette slipcase and book spines show lt. wear/aging and are Exc. w/NM contents. Released in conjunction w/the centennial of Burroughs' birth in 1876, the third volume was much-delayed until 1984. Impressive, high quality pair, reprinting various material including daily and Sunday strips as well as paintings and illustrations. Comes w/publisher's original cardboard shipping carton marked "Edgar Rice Burroughs" stamp. From the collection of comics and illustration historian Brian M. Kane.
