Item Description
Original cardboard shipping carton contains incredible reprint book in over-sized 15.5x20.5" hardcover format in matching over-sized slipcase. Published by Chelsea House Publishers, ©1977 Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. Book has 154 pages of choice full color Sunday page reprints printed on 100 pound matte coated paper stock. Printed in a limited edition of 2,000, first inside page has hand-inked edition number "719" and has been boldly signed in black ink by "Tarzan" Sunday page comic strip artist Burne Hogarth. Below this, page has been further inscribed/signed by Hogarth in red felt tip pen "To Paul Gringle - And Old Friend And A Great Cartoonist - All Best Wishes, Burne Hogarth." Gringle was a comic strip artist who worked on "Out Our Way." Book includes essay section w/complete list of Sunday pages in this book w/date/title. Shipping carton has "The Golden Age Of Tarzan" illustrated return address w/inked matching edition number and large inked title. Carton also has Gringle's name handwritten in black felt tip pen, but we are unsure is this is in Hogarth's hand. Carton has some scattered handling w/surface paper lift on front and some moisture staining on back (that does not affect book or slipcase). Fine. Book and slipcase are NM. Comes w/19.5x28.5" stiff paper reprint of March 23, 1941 Sunday page signed in ink at bottom by Hogarth w/matching edition number. NM. Incredible high quality reprinting some of Hogarth's best work.
