Item Description
Lot of six 8.5x11" sheets and two smaller, one 7.25x10.25" lay-out board, two translucent 6.75x7" paste-up sheets (plus one for John Lennon, split down middle) and 13 negatives in envelopes. Tanned sheet w/two folds across lower half has mimeographed copy of letter w/Seltaeb Incorporated letterhead at top and Feb. 19, 1964 date. Letter is addressed to C. Ray Randall Manufacturing Co. Inc. and states Seltaeb is "Granting To You The Sole And Exclusive Right To Manufacture And Sell Items Of Costume Jewellery [sic] In The United States Of America...Using The Name 'The Beatles' And Their Likenesses, Photographs, Facsimiles And Signatures On Said Costume Jewellery [sic] Relating To 'The Beatles'." Sheet holds clipped newsprint ad w/Beatles/C. Ray Randall headline. 5.5x8.5" translucent sheet w/ ink original art images of four jewelry pieces, stock number and price. Three 8.5x11" sequentially-numbered sheets have ink original art for 26 different designs (and one incomplete design) w/stock numbers/prices. Each on translucent sheet clipped/mounted to these sheets w/glue staining on edges/corners. Many of these designs went into production in early 1964. Three sheets, one stiff board and three translucent sheets w/mounted papers w/four or individually cut images of the groups/each Beatle. Minor glue stains. Last are four envelopes holding negatives. All (except one set) were used to produce the paper images shown on previous items and were covered in celluloid as inserts for jewelry. Majority measure 5x7" and each envelope has red pencil titles including - "Beatles 5x7/4 In One, Beatles Individual 5x7 Portraiture, Beatles Individual 7/8" and "Beatles 70L (for Ligne, a printer's size measure) Individual." Scattered aging w/some scattered staining. Fine/VF overall. A unique in-house group from one of the very earliest Seltaeb licensed Beatles merchandisers in the US.
