Item Description
The 1988 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIV Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event celebrated from Sept. 17 to Oct. 2, 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. These were the second summer Olympic Games to be held in Asia and the first since the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. It was also the first Olympic Games to be held in mainland Asia and the fourth Olympic Games to be held in autumn. Offered here is a bronze participation medal, measuring 2.25" (60mm) dia. Designed by Kim Kwang-Hyun, the obverse features the Namdaemun (South Great Gate), one of the Eight Gates in the Fortress Wall of Seoul, South Korea, which surrounded the city in the Joseon Dynasty. Medal was minted by Korea Security Printing and Minting. Reverse features Seoul Olympic emblem. Medal comes in velvet presentation case in cardboard box marked w/Seoul Olympic emblem (which shows some wear). Case and medal are NM.
