Item Description
11x17-1/8" thin paper poster for Nov. 25, 1963 concert that was to have taken place at the Santa Monica Civil Auditorium in Santa Monica, CA featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., all of whom are featured in photo on poster. Count Basie & His Orchestra were also scheduled to perform. Due to President John F. Kennedy's assassination just days prior to the scheduled concert date, it was canceled, later being rescheduled for Dec. 6, 1964. Concert was conceived as a fundraiser to benefit the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Poster has horizontal crease at center and moderate scattered wear along left and at corners. Fine overall. Interesting event tie-in w/the Civil Rights movement.
