Item Description
Elsie Janis (1889-1956) was an American singer, songwriter, actress and screenwriter. Entertaining the troops during World War I immortalized her as "the sweetheart of the AEF" (American Expeditionary Force). Acclaimed by American and British critics, Janis was a headliner on Broadway and London, later enjoying a career as a Hollywood screenwriter, actor and composer. Offered here is a 10-3/8" tall solid plaster statue w/flat back depicting Janis, w/"Elsie" name incised on front of base. 1920s. Traces of dark sparkle accents remain on shirt collar. Tiny trace of paint wear but VF overall. A rare and rather obscure carnival statue. Eric Renner Collection and the example shown on page 111 of his book "American Disguise."
