Item Description
5" tall solid plaster statue w/antique finish features caricature depiction done in "Billiken" style of silent film comedian John Bunny, who made 200 shorts for Vitagraph from 1910 until his death in 1915. This piece dates to 1914 and was cast by de Renca (a well-known sculptor of the era) and was received as a premium upon subscription to "Motion Picture Magazine." Incised "Funny Bunny" nickname on his belt. Statue shows obvious wear to base but dust soiling hides this to an extent. VG overall. An early and esoteric movie item. First we've seen in our 49 years. Eric Renner Collection and the example shown on page 28 of his book "American Disguise."
