Item Description
This exceptional pair of dolls is from the Gary Selmonsky collection and of very interesting origin. Sir Reginald Victor Wilson was the first full time director of the Australian Motion Picture Distributors Association that was founded in 1924. He assumed this position in 1926. In 1936 he and his wife Lilly May as well as their three children traveled from Australia to London to attend the coronation of King George VI of England. On the way to England, the family stopped in Los Angeles in order for Mr. Wilson to conduct film industry business on behalf of the Australian Association. While in LA, he and his family met Walt Disney and Walt gave a Charlotte Clark doll to each of the Wilson daughters, this Mickey and Minnie. 66 years later in 2002 the daughter of one of the doll recipients, a granddaughter of Mr. Wilson and Lilly May, put these dolls up for sale and they were purchased by Gary. They are a matching pair in 12" tall size. High quality dolls from the 1930s. Mickey is complete with string whiskers, four mother-of-pearl buttons on pants, tail. Minnie also has tail, fragile flower remains attached to hat, large quantity of the individual bristle eyelash accents remain. No string whiskers. Both have typical aging/trace of color fade. A number of the polka dots on Minnie's dress have tiny fabric tears or tiny bits of missing material apparently due to insects but as they appear only on some of the polka dots themselves, this blends. Both still retain a very nice appearance overall. Mickey VF. Minnie Fine. From the Gary Selmonsky Collection.
