Item Description
Complete set of eight plus additional rare variant ranging in height from 2.5" to 4" tall. Made in Germany by Hertwig, 1920s. From "The Gumps" comic strip that began in 1917. Set includes Andy Gump, Chester Gump, Min, Tilda, Widow Zander, Old Timer, Ching Chow and Uncle Bim. Also included is rare Uncle Bim variant depicting him w/one hand behind his back instead of both at his sides as more commonly seen. This is the first example of this variant we have seen in our 49 years. All have character names and "Germany" incised on back. Additionally Widow Zander and Old Timer have incised name of creator Sidney Smith. All elastic is tight. Min has a bit of paint wear, VF. Rest (including both Uncle Bim nodders) are as nice as they come and NM overall.
