Item Description
Complete set of nine plus two additional rare variants; ranging in height from 1-7/8" to 3.75" tall. Made in Germany by Hertwig, 1920s. From "Gasoline Alley" comic strip that began in 1918. Set includes Corky, Uncle Avery, Auntie Blossom, Bill, Mr. Wickler, Doc, Rachel as well as Uncle Walt and Skeezix. Also included are two rare variants, one of Uncle Walt  depicting him w/o hat and w/his arms behind his back instead of w/hat and w/arms at sides. Other variant is Skeezix depicting him wearing green shirt w/yellow bow instead of white shirt w/red bow. His arms are also at his sides instead of held behind his back. Both are the first examples of these variants we have seen in our 49 years. All have character names and "Germany" incised on back. Additionally all but standard versions of Uncle Walt and Skeezix as well as Rachel and Auntie Blossom have incised name of creator Frank King. All elastic is tight. Bill has some paint touch-up to back of pants (not visible from front) and is Fine. Rest are Exc./NM. including Avery, who still has his original wooden stick cigar.
