Item Description
39.75x60" heavy thick board has impressive hand-painted bkg. showing Earth at bottom w/moon at upper right, a rocketship traveling between them. Hand-painted text reads "The Amazing Story Of 3 Men And A Girl Who Made It To The Moon!" w/hand-lettered cast at bottom. Created in-house by movie theater display artist to promote the original releases of the 1958 sci-fi film directed by Byron Haskin that stars Joseph Cotton, George Sanders, Debra Paget, and Don Dubbins. While originating at RKO Pictures, the film was eventually released by Warner Bros. due to RKO's bankruptcy. Display features hand-cut lettering for the film's title, which has additional dimensional texturing as if made of moon rock. Three separate panels are attached to surface, each having large photo image from the film attached. These show the cast, as well as image of men observing futuristic equipment. These panels have had red bkg. coloring added, which has bled somewhat on two panels, giving them a streaked appearance. Main board shows heavy and obvious corner tip wear w/scattered moderate edge wear in the form of chips, tears and small holes. Bottom margin has 7.5" band of moisture staining. Despite issues, display retains vibrant colors and it is obvious much time and great creativity went into making this display. VG.
