Item Description
Offered here is 5.25x5-5/8" artboard w/pencil original art for unused alternate for card #39A "Stopping The Sub" from the Topps 1966 "Batman" card set (A Series). Art features Batman climbing mast on submarine and was created by Bob Powell (1916-1967) an American comic book artist known for his work during the 1930-1940s Golden Age of comic books and also for providing the pencil art for the famous "Mars Attacks, Batman" and other gum card series. Final used art featured Batman crouched in front of submarine's sail (production card shown is for reference only and is not included). Artboard has some scattered spots of faint moisture staining along top but art area remains clean and Exc. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire.
