Item Description
5.5x8" to 8x11". First is "'Save Our Lives' They Must Not Burn" pamphlet w/Haywood Patterson and Clarence Norris on cover. Handling wear and a .75x2" loss at lower left. Good. Two wire photos, one featuring all nine defendants and the other their legal team, were printed at a later date. The rest are 11 press photos printed on photographic paper between the early 1930s and late 1940s.  Press photos range from showing the defendants, their lawyers, and key figures in the case including accusers and witnesses. All have moderate handling wear and waviness. VG to VF. Rare. For two decades after the Scottsboro Boys were falsely accused of gang raping two white women they were embattled in the court system of Alabama fighting for their lives. The case is an important early domino in the civil rights movement and a glaring representation of the injustices African Americans faced.
