Item Description
First at 1.25" and circa 1899 is gorgeous color button promoting "Anti-Monopoly Oils/Scofield Shurmer & Teagle." Text references a gold medal at the 1898 Omaha exposition and also includes the slogan "We Vote Against Trusts And Monopolies." Pictured are logos for Palacine Oil and Double Distilled Gasoline. The gasoline logo at its center has a pinpoint of missing celluloid barely noticeable. Back paper names maker W&H as well as numerous "Western Agencies" by city name. The earliest button we know of to include the word "Gasoline." The other "Gasoline" button in this group is 1.5" without back paper and with name of maker American Artworks on the curl. This promotes "Polarine And Red Crown Gasoline" from the "Standard Oil Company." Next, with no back paper but with name of maker Parisian on the curl promotes a device with text "Have You Seen My Speedo/It's Guaranteed/It Saves Gasoline-Increases Power." c. 1920s. Last with spring pin holding American  flag promotes the "Willard Storage Battery." Cartoon character sits upon a battery with surrounding text "Little Ampere's Day July 21 '17." Other than the pinpoint speck off the first button all four are NM displaying Mint and all are scarce to rare.
