Item Description
15.75x17.75" frame. 8.5x11" image area. A charming campaign etching featuring a log cabin w/"Hard Cider Barrel"  and cannon outside. In the foreground Harrison is greeting a one legged messenger. The image of the one-legged messenger was a well known image in German almanacs. The Whigs evoked this image to court the German-American vote in 1840. A large campaign flag waves in the breeze above the cabin w/text "Harrison & Tyler" and features a liberty cap atop the staff. Moderate handling wear and light overall toning, most notable are: a 1.5" vertical tear just left of center at top edge extending just to the end of the flag, .25" spot of brown stain in field right of the chimney and a light vertical fold at center. VG. Reverse has typed note reading "The Following Was Hand Written On The Back Of This Picture: 'This Picture Published In The First Harrison Campaign And Owned By My Father, Who Was A Harrison Delegate (1839-1840). I Saw And Remembered The Great Harrison Procession With Log Cabin, On Wheels - Hard Cider Barrel And Great Campaign Ball Drawn By Men' Nathaniel Jeaver, Jr. Scituate, Mass 1910." A charming image that has been professionally framed and matted to museum standards utilizing Tru-Vue glass that blocks 97% of UV rays. Ready for display upon delivery.
