Item Description
This is a ring we've never seen before and it comes to us from a consignor who has had it over 30 years. The ring consists of a heavy brass base with adjustable bands. The circular top is held to the base by a pair of metal flanges bent over on the underside. The ring top rim and base are all made of lustrous brass. A flat piece of brass on the ring top has three vertical prongs holding a circular brass piece about 3/16" thick in place. Mounted on top of this brass is a silvery aluminum raised replica of a baseball with stitching. The brass rim surrounding the ball has the words "Strikes", "Balls" and "Outs". At the middle of each word is a square cutout in the brass and at this position on the side edge are three different notched wheels which can be turned so that numerals will appear within the cutout window. In the "Outs" and "Strikes" window the dial can be turned to show numerals 1, 2, or 3. However, on the "Balls" dial only the same numbers-1-2-3 are present and there is no numeral 4 which adds credence to our theory that this is a prototype ring made of some available and some customized parts. The letter "B" of "Balls" is missing bright luster but all other luster remains and condition is NM. The concept is much the same as the Andy Pafko Scorekeeper Baseball ring issued by Muffets in 1949 but the ring being offered is much larger and much heavier. Rare. Probably unique.
