Item Description
Each button is 3.25" with an unusual reverse construction featuring a concave tin back with a .5" wide strip of metal running side to side across the center. This metal strip has two small cut outs and it holds a horizontal bar pin. The button on the left of our photo is shown as item #10 on page #151 of the book. Muchinsky's note on this button in full reads "An Unusual Pin. Although Bearing The Name "Washington Senators", The Design Of The Pin Is That Of An Old Basketball With Laces, C. 1920. The Construction Of The Pin Is From The 1940s Or 1950s, And There Is No Record Of Any Basketball Team Named The Washington Senators." Our only thought on Muchinsky's note is that this construction was more prevalent in the 1930s than later. His book example button with the Capitol in a smaller format has just a little grey tone around the "S" of "Washington." Fine.  The button unlisted in his book with larger Capitol has light grey tone over much of the background. Good. A pair of rare mystery buttons from the Muchinsky Collection.
