Item Description
3x3.75". Emblem on front features a bleeding hand reaching for a thorny bush. The meaning of this emblem as explained by Benjamin Franklin: "The bush I suppose to mean America, the bleeding hand Britain. Would to God that bleeding were stopt, the wounds of that hand healed, and its future operations directed by wisdom and equity; so shall the hawthorn flourish, and form an hedge around it, annoying with her thorns only its invading enemies." Reverse has nature print w/sage and betony leaf. Signed by J.B. Smith a signer of the Articles Of Confederation and second signature in red is illegible. Wear consistent w/heavy use but text remains legible and corners intact. Good. Scarce artifact from a critical year in American history.
