Item Description
1.75" reads "I'm For Robert Welch." Welch was an opponent of Communism even in his teenage years. As a Republican, he lost an election for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts in 1950. In 1952 he supported Robert Taft and he was a prominent contributor to Joseph McCarthy's 1952 re-election campaign. He founded the John Birch Society in Dec. 1958. At that time, William F. Buckley, Jr. denounced Welch in his magazine "National Review" as promoting bizarre conspiracy theories and for working with racists. Buckley feared Welch and his views would tarnish the entire conservative movement. NM displaying Mint. Rare only vintage portrait button we know of.
