Item Description
First is "prank" button, a 1.25" with W&H paper. We don't know any backstory but shown are six soldiers and one stubborn calf. Text reads "Who Stole The Calf? The Drunken 8th,/No! T'was The Lazy 13th". Slight traces of aging on upper half. Not dark. Full gloss. Rare and VF. Second is 1.75" w/W&H paper. This button has illustration of actual event and shows a Georgia saloon keeper shooting a soldier as he and a buddy drink from beer mugs. Event came after War of 1898 armistice but while troops were still in the South. Event happened at Camp McKenzie near Augusta, Ga. The saloon keeper murdered a young soldier from the 15th Minnesota. Comrades mutinied and were bent on revenge. They were intercepted and arrested before they could act. Thus button text at top: "15th Minn. Where Is The Saloon Keeper?/Remember Feb. 5th 1899". Text below "3d, 35th, 10th/Called To Arms". A few age dots barely visible right edge 2-4 o'clock. Glossy and NM. Our one other example exceeded $400 in Auction #215.
