Item Description

Exquisitely hand-decorated porcelain sculpture atop wooden base has impressive overall size of 12x17.5x13" tall. Sculpted by Enzo Arzenton, who first started producing sculptures for the Laurenz Disney Collection in 1983 and continued to do so until he retired in 1999; production on all Disney pieces then ceased. First released in 1984 w/an issue price of $2,440, the production run was supposed to be 2,500 pieces but as w/nearly every piece in this line, final production was much more limited. This particular piece had just 391 produced. The underside of the wood base and individual issue number on accompanying certificate states it is #159 of 2,500 only because these pieces were prepared in advance to the actual production of the sculptures. Incredibly detailed scene prominently features Geppetto in his night clothes carrying a candle and pistol as he looks to see where the commotion is coming from in his workshop. At the opposite end is Pinocchio w/look of joy on his face staring back at Geppetto. Other characters include Figaro at Geppetto's feet, Cleo raised up out of her fishbowl and Jiminy Cricket standing atop the workbench. Superb detailing continues w/the inclusion of objects such as paint cans/brushes, cuckoo clock, pipe, vise, broom basket of wood shavings, boy and clown marionettes on shelf, etc. Front has scroll reading "Walt Disney's Pinocchio" and below this on the wood base is "Laurenz" plaque. Does not come w/original box but sculpture is Mint as issued. An extraordinary sculpture which is a must-have for collectors of Pinocchio and Capodimonte. Tom Tumbusch Collection/Tomart Archives.
