Item Description
2 x 4-5/8" unused booklet with stiff cardboard covers holding ten sheets of ten each perforated and gummed stamps each designed with the logo of the "Jewish War Veterans Of The United States" flanked by a pair of flaming torches representing Liberty and with the text "For Humanity's Sake/ Don't Buy German Goods". Front cover carries NYC address and back cover has lines for name of the seller along with serial number "No. 179". The first major event of the boycott movement was a series of nationwide protest rallies on March 27, 1933. Madison Square Garden had overflow crowd of 55,000 with other rallies in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia and 70 other cities. The MSG rally was broadcast worldwide. Garden speakers included AFL President William Green, former Gov. Al Smith, Sen. Robert Wagner and Christian clergymen calling for the end of persecution of German Jews. The Jewish War Veterans likely issued these fund raiser booklets for or shortly after the Garden event. Only example we've seen.  NM, displaying Mint.
