Item Description
7/8" w/union back stamp and bug on curl at 6 o'clock. Features portrait of Castro from the early 1960s. The initials "PR" flank his image and likely the button was issued to inspire a revolution in that country similar to the successful one in Cuba. Surrounding text is "M-26 de Julio/Libertad O Muerte." Rim slogan translates to "Liberty Or Death" and the date refers to the 26th of July Movement which was the name of the revolutionary organization planned and led by Castro that in 1959 overthrew the Batista dictatorship in Cuba. The movement's name originated from a failed attack on the Moncada Barracks (the bullet holes in the cement walls have been preserved) an Army facility in Santiago de Cuba on 26 July, 1953. The movement leaders fled to Mexico and re-organized later returning to Cuba for their successful revolution. Pinpoint speck under cello on his forehead. NM, and still displays Mint as made. Rare.
