Item Description
Just over 1" dia. An 1846 large copper cent counterstamped w/slogan from Martin Van Buren's 1848 campaign on the Free Soil Party ticket. Verso has become almost entirely smooth w/about 40% of original text. Front remains crisp w/strong counterstamp. Technically VF but displays NM. Van Buren's Free Soil party was chiefly concerned w/making sure as the country expanded west, new states would be free of slavery. Ted Watts Collection.
