Item Description
.75". Dated 1852 copper large cent that has been ground down around edges to highlight Lady Liberty's head. The contentious grassroots group was made up of mostly northern "War" Democrats who the Republicans likened to snakes, specifically copperheads. The group adopted the image of Lady Liberty and altered large cents to wear as badges and carry as tokens. The present example has sharp details and a smooth edge w/only minor wear. Exc. Ted Watts Collection.
