Item Description
Rare 1.25" with special back paper. This is one of about six cartoon style 1898 War buttons and in our experience the rarest. Back paper names W&H but has eight additional text lines to effect that "purchaser" made contribution to a fund to present "remembrances for the brave gunners in the American Navy, to commemorate their accurate firing in the late American-Spanish War". Named also is The Reitler Patriotic Publishing Co., Denver, Colorado and the name Charles Reitler appears on lower front edge with 1898 copyright. From color plate page #157. Comes w/Hake's COA. NM displaying Mint.
