Item Description

The "Superman" Sunday page debuted Nov. 5, 1939. Various newspapers across the country teased the strip's upcoming publication in their respective papers, often utilizing a teaser strip, Strip 1A, titled "The Man Of Tomorrow." It featured a "pick-up" strip, and was the first story published when Sunday papers decided to carry the Superman strips and was used into the early 1940s. Offered here is a clipped 10.5x14.5" example of this teaser strip. Comprised of ten panels, it featured a brief retelling of Superman's origin and featured an end panel w/classic image of Superman breaking chains w/"Superman - Man Of Steel - Follow His Startling Adventures Beginning Next Sunday - Don't Miss It!" text. The "Superman" title panel features a 1939 McClure Newspaper Syndicate copyright, though unfortunately the name of the publication is not included anywhere on clipping. Edges show some scattered wear, but still Fine overall and would make for nice display if framed. Early and historic. Franco Toscanini Collection.
