Item Description

12x14.5" thin cardboard sign features large and bold "Superman Comes To Cleveland" title at top w/additional text on the sign reading "This Feature Comic Is The One All The Girls And Boys Have Been Waiting For! - He Amazes The World With His Spectacular Feats Of Daring And Strength - Superman In Full Color Every Sunday... Beginning January 21st In The Plain Dealer - Newest-Most Exciting Adventure Strip." Running along almost the entire right half is nearly 12" tall full figure image of Superman w/a pair of 2x2" blocks w/action scenes at left, one showing Superman throwing car, the other of him flying over house. Further tying into Superman history is the fact that the "Plain Dealer" was the newspaper of Cleveland, OH, hometown of Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Upper right corner has 1.25" piece replaced, but this does not affect any text or images, just border stripe. Rest of sign has some corner foxing and aging/wear. Still displays Fine. Rare and only the third example we've sold in our 50 years (previous examples selling between $2,000 and $3,000). Franco Toscanini Collection.
