Item Description
14x22" thin cardboard sign features Otto Soglow (creator of "The Little King" comic strip) cartoon art at center showing beaten boxer on the ropes. Text at top reads "This Is The Place To Hear The Radio Returns Of The Louis-Schmeling Fight," referencing the June 22, 1938 bout between American boxer Joe Louis and German boxer Max Schmeling. This was the pair's second fight, Schmeling having beaten Louis in 1936. The second fight ended w/Louis the winner. Bottom of sign features ad for McKesson & Robbins, Inc. Martin's V.V.O. scotch whiskey, w/text noting "Whoever Your Favorite... You'll Find Martin's V.V.O. Scotch Whiskey Is A Favorite At This Bar," indicating these signs were produced for barroom display. Sign has even aging and left margin has 1.25" section of roughness/wear and 75" tear at bottom as well as some corner tip wear. Fine overall. Scarce.
