Item Description
14x22" thin cardboard poster. On the first day on Congress 1965 MFDP lawyers filed a challenge to the right of five Mississippi Congressmen to take their seats in the House Of Representatives. The argument was based on the Congressmen being nominated and elected in a process that African Americans were systematically excluded from. The challenge was backed up by 15,000 pages of sworn testimony about conditions in Mississippi gathered by a team of lawyers during the limited 40 day window allowed by law. Toning at edges and moderate handling wear. VF. A rare artifact from the struggle for voting rights. First we've seen. Rare. Ted Watts Collection.
