Item Description

12x15-5/8" artboard w/pen and ink original art by José Luis García-López, whose long-running relationship w/DC Comics helped shape the style of the publishing company's comic books during the 1980s. During his exclusive contract w/DC, he was responsible for penciling the style guides used by the company to provide official artwork for merchandise licenses around the world. García-López illustrated the 1982 guide (still used today as part DC Comics' retro line), a 1992 guide focused on the "Batman Returns" movie, Superman-related guides from 1991, 1994 and 2006 as well as other DC Universe guides in 1998, 2004 and 2012. Art features full body images of seven of DC Comics' female heroes - Supergirl (final style guide art was updated to include the updated 1983 Supergirl costume, including her headband), Zatanna, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Batgirl, Wonder Girl and Hawkwoman. All have name paste-overs by their image w/paste-over strips, including 1982 DC Comics, Inc. copyright strip along bottom margin. Lower margin has slight trim. Artboard has even aging and scattered corner tip wear. Art remains clean and Exc.Comes w/color print of final style guide image.
