Item Description
10.75x16.5" mailer opens to 16.5x21.5". Thin paper "Movie Pictorial" herald is folded as mailed and features a variety of photos to promote the classic silent horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel "Le Fantôme de l'Opéra," directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney, Sr. in the title role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. While herald shows many images from the film as well as female lead Mary Philbin, The Phantom only appears twice, both times w/his face obscured as Chaney's now famous ghastly, self-devised make-up was kept a studio secret until the film's premiere. Three horizontal folds as issued. Bottom quarter has 2x5.5" area of surface paper wear and back blank area has 3.5x7.75" piece of paper pasted on w/jagged edges. Archival tape repair to 1" tear at right of top fold line. VG overall.
