Item Description
These 13/16" litho buttons are from a 1930s set so rare it went unlisted in Buttons In Sets (1984) and we've never offered a group in these auctions. The reverses are blank so there are no clues as to issuer or maker. We do not know how many different were issued but this is the largest group we've ever seen at 25. Only three retain bright green background color with 22 having darkening of the green and tanning of the animal image. Most retain full paint with six having added damage as specified in the following list of animals included: Alligator, Antelope, Baboon, Badger, Bear, Beaver, Bison (two small dents on left), Boar, Buffalo, Camel, Elk (heavy tan at bottom and 1/8" paint dot off), Fox, Giraffe (1/8" paint dot off), Gorilla, Hippopotamus, Hyena, Kangaroo, Koodoo, Leopard, Monkey (heavy tanning at bottom), Porcupine, Puma, Rhinoceros (color loss/tanning- only Fair), Tiger, Zebra (3/8" scratch).
Overall, VG with some age tone showing but they still display nicely as a group and they are the rarest set of animal buttons known to us.
