Item Description
25x25.5". c. 1844. Center portrait is encircled by stalks of wheat and text "Clay/Frelinghuysen" at top and bottom and "Tariff/Union" at left and right. Each corner has a campaign motif including: "Agriculture And Commerce" at top left; "Union And Our Country" at top right; "Tariff Home League" at bottom left and "Rolling In To Clear The Way" w/image of racoon holding a "Constitution" following a ball. A vertical 3.5" separation at top right affecting the oak leaf border design that could be matted out if framed. Light brown vertical bands in the field at left of Clay portrait and a thin band of brown stain along bottom edge that just extends through the border into the cream background. VG. A rare survivor w/outstanding content and a charming presence that will frame beautifully.
