Item Description
Eight tokens and one clothing button spanning the campaigns of McClellan in 1864 through 1880. All in brass except second item (Johnson) is white metal. All, except the clothing button, have portrait on front with slogan and/or text on reverse. Sizes are .75" to 1-1/16". In order and using DeWitt numbers are: McClellan 1864-25. Reverse is designed like a gold coin of the era and as DeWitt notes, this example has heavy coat of gilt to give it gold appearance. Next is one of the few medallic pieces for Andrew Johnson issued when he assumed the presidency. DeWitt #5. Next are the 1868 opposing  candidates with Grant DeWitt #30 and jugate Seymour/Blair DeWitt #7. Next are matching 1872 tokens for opposing candidates Grant DeWitt #13 and Greeley DeWitt #10, each with reverse naming the VP candidates Wilson and Brown. Next is 1880 Garfield/Arthur jugate, DeWitt 1880-10 except DeWitt lists only brass and this is silvered brass. Also from 1880 is "Garfield And Arthur" clothing button and last is 1880 Hancock and English jugate DeWitt #4. All VF to Exc. Ted Watts Collection.
