Item Description
"The Fight Of The Century" (also known as "The Fight") is the title given to the boxing match between WBC/WBA heavyweight champion Joe Frazier and Ring magazine/lineal heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, held March 8, 1971 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Frazier won in 15 rounds via unanimous decision. It was the first time that two undefeated boxers fought each other for the heavyweight title. Offered here is 8.5x11" program featuring painted Leroy Neiman cover ( and illustrations throughout) as well as several photos throughout, including other notable boxers like George Forman, Jack Dempsey, Jerry Quarry and others as well as sections for both Ali and Frazier. Unused and Exc. Lot also includes 1.75" dia. cello button featuring photos of both fighters below "The Fight" text, date and Madison Square Garden location. Glossy and Exc. Comes w/March 9, 1971 "Daily News" newspaper dominated by large "Joe Wins By Decision" headline and photo of Frazier standing over defeated Ali. Back cover also features fight coverage as does center two-page spread. Complete issue. Newspaper is evenly aged and Fine overall.
