Item Description
Original mailing envelope w/"M.L.J. Magazines" return address and typed recipient address contains 2x3.5" stiff membership card for club sponsored by "Pep Comics." Card has typed member's name (which differs that on envelope) and actual ink-signed name of The Shield comic book character's secret identity Joe Higgins as issued. Card has even lt. aging and ring of wear from included button. This includes some tiny oxidized spots. Fine overall. Rare. Envelope shows wear from mailing w/tiny hole at return address but is complete and Fine overall. Envelope is very rare. 1.25" dia. button is size variant issued by "Pep Comics" in 1943 featuring classic image of The Shield bending metal beam w/"Truth - Justice - Patriotism - Courage" code and "Shield G-Man Club" name at top. Glossy and NM. Also comes w/.75x1-1/8" celluloid badge, featuring same image of The Shield. NM. "Pep Comics" was the comic book title that introduced the superhero character The Shield, the first of the super-patriotic heroes w/a costume based on the American flag (pre-dating Captain America by over a year).
