Item Description
This premium club kit was issued by Taystee Bread in 1934 featuring one of the earliest superheroes - Mandrake the Magician. 1-1/8" tall enameled brass badge is attached to 2.25x4.25" card as issued, though card has some splits along perforated line. Card has printing on each side including "Mandrake Official Seal" and facsimile signature on front. Back has "Magic Creed." Card notes member is authorized by Mandrake to "Perform The Magic Tricks Issued By Me To Club Members." Front has been signed in ink, signature smudging somewhat. Blue color fade and some moisture staining to edges at left. Fine. Badge has some lt. surface wear w/tiny scratch across "Mandrake" name. Fine/VF. Comes w/original envelope w/"Mandrake Magician's Club" return address and name that matches that on card. Envelope shows obvious wear w/scattered staining. VG. Also comes w/small glassine envelope and 3x5" stiff paper card w/printing on each side, welcoming member to club and mentions badge and card as well as Taystee Bread. Some aging/handling wear. Fine/VF. Card also mentions 8.25x10.5" sheet of "Mandrake Magician's Club - New Magic Tricks For Club Members Only." Kit also comes w/additional 7-7/8x10-7/8" sheet of "New Magic Tricks" that was issued to club members. Both have been folded as mailed w/some wear along fold lines/fold crease intersections on second sheet. Fine. First sheet is VF/Exc. Rarely found complete.
