Item Description
Richard Merkin (1938-2009) enjoyed much acclaim as a painter, illustrator, writer and educator. Merkin's works reside in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum among others. He was a regular contributor to "The New Yorker, Harper's, GQ" and other periodicals as well as serving as a contributing editor to "Vanity Fair." Offered here is 16x20" sheet of art paper w/Merkin's charcoal and pastel original art featuring a stylized portrait of celebrated theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955). Of note, Einstein's necktie features stylized depiction of his mass-energy equivalence formula "E = mc2." Bottom right has Merkin's handwritten title "The World Of Science Is My Game." This art was published on a 1.25" dia. button by Easy Aces, ©1981 Richard Merkin. An example of the button is included, w/shortened "Science Is My Game" title on rim. This art was later gifted to Hake's founder Ted Hake, w/handwritten note from Merkin at lower right reading "For The Hakes With Love - 1988." Art has acetate overlay w/Rubylith accents, the red ring around portrait appearing on final art. Top/bottom margins have Rubylith as well, along w/notes to not remove acetate. Art paper has two hole punches at top and some edge corner tip wear, but art remains clean and would display Exc. if matted and framed.
