Item Description
The Israelite House of David is recognized in sports circles for their touring baseball teams whose players wore their hair and beards long. Offered here is a 11.25x22" thin paper broadside from 1930 promoting the Benton Harbor, MI team. Featuring a picture of the 1928 House of David Traveling Team, this broadside was used to advertise both the House of David baseball club and later the City of David team. Broadside also features photo of Francis Thorpe, owner and manager of the team, J.I. Tally, listed as "The Babe Ruth Of The Colony Team" as well as John Tucker, noted as the "Elongated First Baseman. Promotional text includes "World's Champion Traveling Baseball Team - 1928 Won 110, Tied 3 Of 165 Games" and "See The Whiskered Boys In Their World Famous Pepper Game - Worth The Price Of Admission." Broadside has evenly tanned w/age and has tiny margin nick at lower right w/.25" tear and 1" margin tear just above this. Center has faint horizontal fold, but if framed, would display VF. A very desirable piece of vintage barnstorming House of David baseball memorabilia.
